During the past couple of days I received a lot of mails telling me that RSSOwl is reported as a potential virus or trojan. This is of course a false warning. In case this happens to you, please update your anti-virus application and try again. If the warning is not going away, please contact me.
RSSOwl 1.2.2 released
Check out some of the cool new features and security enhancements:
- Integrated Feed-Validator now using W3C-Service
- Windows: Improved security of embedded Browser
- Optimized integrated Feed-Search to return more results
- Settings are now automatically backup'ed and restored after a crash
- A lot of Bugfixes
May the owl be with you,
Ben
Feed Security and RSSOwl
As Nick already mentioned in his Blog, the Black Hat USA 2006 brought up the topic about security issues in newsreaders. RSSOwl was mentioned to be vulnerable on malicious JavaScript coming from a newsfeed. I am going to work in that area for upcoming RSSOwl 1.2.2, but if you are really concerned about the Internet Explorer being used, you can always disable it in preferences and use an external Browser instead.
For the future I am seriously looking into integrating Mozilla rather than the Internet Explorer.

Being in Zurich again...
...working for the next two months. It's fun, I met Matt and Kyle from RadRails. We are looking forward in attending the Streetparade next weekend. Our goal is to get as many people from the IBM Lab there as possible.
Sorry for not being very active the past months. The university made me work a lot, but I plan to blog more regularly in the future.
